Accelerate Change: Empowered Airmen

We live in a world that is driven by rapidly changing technology and an environment that includes aggressive and capable global competitors. Airmen are key to cutting unnecessary bureaucracy, recognizing and understanding our competition, and thinking of creative ways we can reshape the design of our Air Force. The Air Force must accelerate, must change, and must prepare for the future!

This page is dedicated towards highlighting the accomplishments of our talented Airmen at all levels and to show the impact they can make when they are informed and empowered to problem solve and make smart recommendations and decisions.

Researchers and engineers from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) partner with the Wetlands Institute at the Seven Mile Island Innovation Lab to discover new ways of protecting bird habitats that reside in estuaries. The laboratory team is attempting to leverage a form of beneficial use dredging to rehabilitate marsh sediment that was previously uninhabitable to bird species. Dave Perkey, the deputy director of the Regional Sediment Management Program, and Dr. Jarrell Smith, a research hydraulics engineer from the CHL, discuss recent research efforts while working in New Jersey in spring 2021.
