28th Bomb Wing U.S. Air Force Fact Sheet 28th Bomb Wing Overview The 28th Bomb Wing, activated July 28, 1947, is an Air Force wing located at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, and is one of two bases responsible for the operation and maintenance of the B-1B Lancer. The wing is aligned under Air Force Global Strike Command. The 28th Bomb wing is home to 3,700 Airmen and operates 27 B-1B Lancers. The base also hosts the 89th Attack Squadron, assigned to the 432nd Wing, which operates the MQ-9 Reaper. Mission Provide airpower – anytime, anywhere! Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The emblem reflects the Wing's predecessor World War II unit, the 28th Bombardment Wing. The nebula partition line symbolizes clouds and denotes the Wing's area of operation within the Air Force global reach mission.
