Polar mission
A crew chief watches as supplies slide off of the LC-130 Hercules cargo plane and onto the ice sheet July 28, 2010, at a remote science research site in Greenland. The 109th Airlift Wing is the only military unit in the world to fly such aircraft and has flown missions to Greenland since 1975. The unit now provides airlift support to the National Science Foundation's polar research program here. (Department of Defense photo/Fred W. Baker III)
