Air Force chapel communities help Hurricane Sandy survivors Published Jan. 8, 2013 WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- More than 50 Air Force chapel communities raised approximately $151,000 dollars to provide help and comfort to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. "As the extent of the Hurricane Sandy damage began to be reported, Chaplain Corps leadership requested the collection of a special offering for the people affected. It is truly heartwarming to witness the generosity of Airmen and their families to those in need," said Maj. Gen. Howard Stendahl, the Air Force Chief of Chaplains. All of the money went to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The Chaplain Corps donated most of the money to the American Red Cross to provide shelter, food, health and emotional health services to affected people. Other organizations, such as Samaritan's Purse and Catholic Charities also received donations. "I am deeply grateful to all those who contributed," Stendahl said.
