Air Force summer job opportunities now available Published April 1, 2011 By Debbie Gildea Air Force Personnel, Services and Manpower Public Affairs RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Now is the time for those interested in temporary summer employment to apply for an Air Force job. Many Air Force summer vacancies are already being posted for such positions as office automation and computer clerk, laborer, lifeguard, recreation aide, and food service worker. To be considered for a summer position, an individual must meet at least one of the following criteria: be eligible for the Student Temporary Employment Program, have Veteran Recruitment Appointment eligibility, be a documented 30 percent disabled veteran, or have reinstatement status. STEP applicants must be enrolled in an accredited high school or enrolled/accepted for enrollment as degree-seeking students, taking at least a half-time course load in an accredited technical, vocational, two- or four-year college or university, or graduate or professional school. For Veteran Recruitment Appointment eligibility, an applicant must be a disabled veteran; or a veteran who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized; or a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the Armed Forces, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded; or a recently separated veteran. To qualify under the veterans' 30 percent disabled hiring authority, individuals must have served in the military, be able to produce proof of service and disability (DD Form 214 Member 4 copy and VA Disability Rating), and have a service-connected disability of 30 percent or more. To be eligible for reinstatement, applicants must have held a federal career or career-conditional appointment at some time in the past. If so, there is no time limit on reinstatement eligibility for those with veterans' preference or who acquired career tenure by completing three years of substantially continuous creditable service. Applicants who do not have veterans' preference or did not acquire career tenure may be reinstated within three years after their date of separation. The application period ends Aug. 28, and duty hours will vary by base and announcement. Vacancies are announced at www.usajobs.gov. Applicants can find summer vacancies by entering "summer hire" in the keyword search box. For information on a specific job, enter the title into the key word search. Applicants must first create a free account in USAJOBS, and then create and save a resume. Submission will vary depending on the agency announcing the vacancy, so follow the announcement application instructions. USAJOBS can be accessed by computer or smart phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and account holders can sign up for automatic job announcement notices.
