C-17s support Operation Deep Freeze
Matt Smith, an Antarctica survival training guide looks out the window of a C-17 Globemaster III Dec. 25, 2010, as it flies over the Ross Sea towards McMurdo Air Station, Antarctica. The aircraft is assigned to the Air Force Reserve Command’s 728th Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash. The C-17 departed Christchurch, New Zealand, but had to turn around as bad weather made it too difficult to land in Antarctica. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Lee Hoover)
