Airman receives Bronze Star during AFA

A tactical air control party member and one of the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year received a Bronze Star Medal with Valor during the Air Force Association Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md., Sept. 14.

Staff Sgt. Kenneth I. Walker III earned the award for heroism as a member of Detachment 2, 817th Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron and Task Force Spader while engaged in ground combat in Ghosleck Valley, Afghanistan, May 24, 2009.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz officiated the ceremony and presented the award to Sergeant Walker, an Air National Guardsman who has completed several deployments over the course of his 12 years of Air Force service. He has also deployed to Kosovo, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The general lauded Sergeant Walker for saving lives and demonstrating personal courage, as well as his competence.
