Aug. 20 airpower summary Published Sept. 1, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 20, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Balocan Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted shows of force and the pilots performed strafing runs and released precision-guided munitions against enemy positions to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers called the engagements successful. Remak Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of presence and shows of force with flares over enemy positions which ground controllers deemed successful. Abchakan F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagement successful. Asmar F-15E aircrews and F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Helmand Province Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 232,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. Paktika Province A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 27,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
