Aug. 19 airpower summary Published Sept. 1, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Aug. 19, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Qalat Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and performed multiple strafing runs against an enemy position to deter enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers called the engagements successful. Asmar Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force over enemy positions which ground controllers declared successful. Badikhel Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle and Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force with flares over enemy targets which JTACs deemed successful. Tarin Kowt A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagement successful. Sheykabad F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force with flares which JTACs deemed successful. Chahar Bagh Coalition and Navy F/A-18F aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The F/A-18F aircrews conducted a show of force and coalition aircrews performed a strafing run over and enemy target to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers deemed the engagements successful. Airlift Action Badghis Province Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 71,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. Helmand Province An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. Air Operations in Iraq: Close-Air Support Al Hillah F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted shows of force at several locations to deter enemy activity.
