Space Logistics Group passes compliance inspection

The Space Logistics Group, a subordinate unit of the Space and Missile Systems Center, received an overall grade of "in compliance with comments" on a compliance inspection conducted Aug. 16 through 23. This was the first time the group had undergone a CI.

CIs are conducted to assess areas mandated by law, as well as mission areas identified by senior Air Force and major command leadership, as critical or important to assess and assure the health and performance of organizations.

Approximately 25 Air Force Space Command inspectors conducted the eight-day evaluation assessing the group's ability to sustain and maintain worldwide Air Force and Department of Defense space weapon systems to include terrestrial and space weather, Global Positioning Systems, launch and range control, satellite command and control, secure satellite communications, and missiles early warning systems. Areas evaluated included all applicable functions of the group.

"CIs are very tough for any organization, regardless of mission, and we expect units to be compliant with mandated requirements each and every day," said Col. Scott Gilson, the AFSPC inspector general. "These inspections are rigorous, thorough and purposefully designed to ensure the unit is able to accomplish (its) mission.

"We examine leadership, training and performance at all levels of the organization and look for shortfalls in existing policies and guidance to maximum mission effectiveness," Colonel Gilson added.

"As the Air Force's focal point for space logistics, depot level maintenance, and supply chain management, we are committed to providing space weapons systems sustainment to the warfighter 24/7, 365 days a year," said Louis Johnson, the director of the SMC's Space Logistics Group. "The successful completion and satisfactory result of our recent compliance inspection is a testament to the dedication and hard work put forth by the members of our highly qualified space logistics team."
