July 17 airpower summary Published July 21, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan in the following operations July 17, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Tirgari An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of presence over an enemy position to deter enemy activity. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagement successful. Asmar Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews performed multiple strafing runs and released precision-guided munitions against several enemy targets to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs declared the engagements successful. Konduz Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force with flares which JTACs and ground controllers declared successful. Chahar Bagh Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers and JTACs called the engagements successful. Gereshk Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and conducted a show of force with flares to deter enemy activity. JTACs called the engagement successful. Airlift Action Helmand Province Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. Paktika Province C-17 aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 136,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
