June 18 airpower summary Published June 22, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 18, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Chahar Bagh Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces firing against friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy position, which destroyed it. The engagement was determined successful. Gereshk Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots, coalition aircrews and an Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F-16 pilots conducted several strafing runs against enemy positions after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. A B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position and eliminated another threat to friendly forces. The coalition aircrew conducted a show of presence in between actions to deter enemy forces. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful. Asadabad A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and escorted a friendly convoy. When friendly forces came under attack from enemy forces, the aircrew released a precision-guided munition against the enemy position and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful when no further enemy activity was observed. Tirgari Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When aircrews observed enemy rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire directed against friendly forces, they released precision-guided munitions on the point of origin and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful. Sangin F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with a flare, to deter enemy activity when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire.
