Air Operations in Afghanistan

Chahar Bagh
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces firing against friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy position, which destroyed it. The engagement was determined successful.

Gereshk
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots, coalition aircrews and an Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F-16 pilots conducted several strafing runs against enemy positions after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. A B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position and eliminated another threat to friendly forces. The coalition aircrew conducted a show of presence in between actions to deter enemy forces. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.

Asadabad
A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and escorted a friendly convoy. When friendly forces came under attack from enemy forces, the aircrew released a precision-guided munition against the enemy position and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful when no further enemy activity was observed.

Tirgari
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When aircrews observed enemy rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire directed against friendly forces, they released precision-guided munitions on the point of origin and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.

Sangin
F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with a flare, to deter enemy activity when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful when no further enemy fire was observed.

Asmar
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.

Konar River Valley
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
