Air Operations in Afghanistan

Asmar
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces. The B-1B aircrew released precision-guided munitions against an enemy sniper position and eliminated a threat to friendly forces during a military operation.

Later, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy activity and released precision-guided munitions to deter anti-Afghan forces activity and eliminate an enemy cave position used to attack friendly forces. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers and ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Kandahar
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy machine gun fire against friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy position, which destroyed it. The engagement was determined successful.

Shurakian
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. When friendly forces came under attack from enemy forces, A-10 pilots conducted several cannon fire strafing runs, which eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Pilots also conducted a show of presence to deter enemy action while friendly forces changed their location. Ground controllers declared all actions successful when no further enemy activity was observed.

Sangin
Air Force F-15E aircrews and coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces came under enemy fire, F-15E aircrews conducted numerous strafing runs against enemy positions and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Coalition pilots conducted a show of force over a friendly forces convoy to deter enemy activity when the convoy reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared all engagements successful.

Sheykhabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.

Qarah Bahg
A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity while convoy began its operation. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Asadabad
F-16 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful.

Balocan
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, which ground controllers declared successful.
