Savings bonds deductions move to direct deposit Sept. 30 Published June 17, 2010 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Airmen and Department of Defense civilians will use a new way to purchase savings bonds beginning Sept. 30 as part of the Department of Treasury's cost-effective plan to issue savings bonds electronically. Instead of payroll deductions, savings bonds will be available through a direct-deposit deduction by setting up a Treasury Direct account. Treasury Direct offers an option for payroll savings using a payroll direct deposit. Airmen and DOD civilians interested in learning more about how to set up a Treasury Direct account should visit http://www.savingsbonds.gov/indiv/products/prod_paperpayrollsavings.htm.
