Air Operations in Afghanistan

Asmar
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and Air force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots supported friendly forces, friendly forces patrols and friendly convoys. The B-1B and F-15E aircrews released multiple precision-guided munitions against enemy positions to eliminate threats to friendly forces. Later, F-15E aircrews and F-16 pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter further enemy activity. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers and ground controllers called the engagements successful.

Lashkar Gah
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and close-air support for a friendly forces operation. Operators observed armed insurgents approaching friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy location, which eliminated a threat to the operation. Ground commanders declared the engagement successful.

Chahar Bagh
Air Force F-15E aircrews and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly ground forces. F-15E aircrews conducted a show of force to break friendly forces contact with enemy forces and deter further enemy activity. A-10 pilots observed enemy forces emplacing an improvised explosive device and made a cannon fire strafing run against the enemy position, which eliminated a threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared all engagements successful.

Tarin Kowt
Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators, Air Force A-10 pilots and coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces who posed a thereat to friendly forces and fired a missile against the enemy position, eliminating a threat to friendly forces. A-10 and coalition pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy action, which ground controllers declared successful.

Oruzgan
An Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for a dismounted friendly patrol. The aircrew conducted shows of force, with flares released, to deter enemy fire against the friendly patrol then released precision-guided munitions against the enemy position. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.

Abchakan
Air Force F-15E aircrews and Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F-16 pilots conducted a show of force when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire and later, F-15E aircrews released a precision-guided munition against an enemy position to eliminate a threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no further enemy activity was observed.

Sheykhabad
Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, which ground controllers declared successful.

Konduz
Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter a threat against the convoy. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful when no enemy activity was observed and the convoy passed unimpeded.

Shinkay
Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force to deter potential enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when no enemy activity was observed.

Helmand Province
Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province
Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 72,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
An Air Force C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
