June 6 airpower summary Published June 7, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations June 6, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Washir Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly forces. Enemy forces were observed in vicinity of a cave entrance so the pilots released precision-guided munitions into the cave entrance to eliminate the use of the cave by enemy forces. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions successful. Monari Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The operators observed enemy forces stop and engage friendly forces with small-arms fire. They released missiles against the enemy positions to suppress enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased. Zirani Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, a friendly-forces convoy and a medical evacuation. The pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter any enemy action in the area. Ground controllers declared the action successful. Shahidan F-16 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. The pilots conducted shows of presence to deter enemy fire during a medical evacuation. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no enemy activity was reported. Asadabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported taking enemy sniper fire, the aircrews released precision-guided munitions against enemy-occupied buildings on a hilltop. Enemy fire ceased with the destruction of enemy positions. Ground controllers confirmed all actions were successful. Balocan An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. The aircrew conducted shows of presence to deter enemy activity.
