May 21 airpower summary Published May 24, 2010 WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations May 21, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Lashkar Gah Coalition operators and aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The operators observed enemy forces setting up a machine gun near friendly forces and requested permission to neutralize the threat. A missile was released against the enemy position, which eliminated the threat while aircrews conducted a show of force to further deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared all actions successful when no further enemy action was noted. Asmar Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly forces convoy. After arriving on station, the aircrews observed enemy forces firing against a friendly convoy and conducted a show of force to break hostile contact.
