Individual shot during altercation at MacDill Published May 19, 2010 MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AFNS) -- MacDill Air Force Base security forces were alerted to an alleged altercation at approximately 6 p.m. May 19 at the base family camp. Security forces members responded to the situation, and one of the individuals involved in the altercation fled from the scene on his motorcycle at high speeds. Security forces Airmen attempted to stop the individual; however, he evaded pursuit and proceeded to one of the base gates. At the gate, he was engaged by law enforcement officials and was shot. Medical crews and investigators responded. No other individuals were injured. The identity of the suspect has not be released. At this time, there is no indication this act was linked to any sort of terrorist activity. "Our security forces personnel acted promptly to safeguard the base and its personnel," said Col. Larry Martin, the 6th Air Mobility Wing commander. "We appreciate the quick and professional cooperation from local law enforcement and fire responders. The incident is under investigation and as more information is available, it will be released."
