Air Operations in Afghanistan Close-Air Support Asmar Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces reported receiving heavy enemy small-arms fire and the pilots released precision-guided munitions against enemy fighting positions to break enemy contact with friendly ground forces. The engagement was declared successful by on-scene joint terminal attack controllers. Zirani Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol and convoy. The aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter anti-Afghan forces activity in the area. The show of force was confirmed successful by ground controllers. Khowst An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and reconnaissance for suspicious activity. The aircrew observed enemy forces firing at friendly forces and released a precision-guided munition, eliminating the enemy position and stopping enemy fire. Later, the aircrew conducted a show of presence that ground controllers reported successful. F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. The aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter possible enemy activity in the convoy area. The show of force was confirmed successful by ground controllers. Farah Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces during an exfiltration operation. The pilots conducted a show of force, which was called successful by JTACs. Konduz F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy.
