Air Operations in Afghanistan

Close-Air Support

Konduz
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol. The aircrews observed enemy forces setting up a machine gun fighting position, confirmed coordinates and released a precision-guided munition on the enemy position. The enemy position was eliminated.

Morghab
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, over the area. The show of force was confirmed successful by ground control.

Qalat
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy stalled by an improvised explosive device. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan activity in the area. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers confirmed the show of force was successful.

Abu Kala
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for Afghan National Security Forces and surveillance for suspicious activity in the area. The aircrews conducted a show of force when Afghan forces came under enemy fire.

Airlift Action

Oruzgan Province
Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-resupply missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 5,000 and 7,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Farah Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 30,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province
A C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 4,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
A C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 71,000 pounds of sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
