Close-Air Support

Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces conducting a clearing operation. The pilots observed suspicious activity at a known enemy fighting and spotting position and were tasked with eliminating it. A precision-guided munition was released against the enemy position, which eliminated a threat and achieved the ground commanders' intent.

Air Force F-15-E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces at several friendly fighting positions, several dismounted patrols and a convoy. When anti-Afghan forces were observed setting up fighting positions on a hilltop, the aircrews released a precision-guided munition destroying the threat to friendly forces in the area.

Asmar
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces patrol and other friendly forces in the area. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy fire from multiple locations, coordinates for the positions were passed to the aircrews and a precision-guided munition was released against the primary enemy fighting position. The action was declared successful when enemy fire ceased.

Bagram
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and several dismounted friendly patrols. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy small-arms fire directed against friendly forces. While the show of force was considered initially successful, enemy fire was reported again by friendly forces and a precision-guided munition was released. The enemy fire ceased.

Moqor
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and close-air support for friendly ground forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy fire in the vicinity of an Afghan National Army compound. The show of force was declared successful by ground forces.

Sol Tani
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces operation. The aircrews conducted a show of force during the operation to deter anti-Afghan forces activity. The show of force was declared successful by ground commanders.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy returning to its base. The pilots conducted shows of presence to deter any potential enemy aggression against the convoy. The shows of presence were successful as no enemy action was noted.

Khowst
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. At the direction of friendly ground forces, aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy action. The shows of force were reported successful.

Balocan
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the pilots arrived on station, they conducted shows of force to deter enemy action in the area. The shows of force, one with flares launched, were determined to be successful.

Abu Kala
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces patrol and surveillance over a village for suspicious activity. The pilots conducted a show of presence. The show of presence was declared successful by ground forces.

Farah Province
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Farah Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 36,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province
A C-17 aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 34,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province
A C-130 aircrew flew combat airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province
A C-130 aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Nimroz Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Nimroz Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 18,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
