March 15 airpower summary Published March 18, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations March 15 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Close-Air Support Musa Qala Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots conducted shows of force above friendly forces taking enemy small-arms fire. Following the shows of force, the pilots conducted a strafing run requested by a joint terminal attack controller which met the ground commander's intent. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch to friendly forces. Upon request from ground forces, the pilots conducted shows of force to deter enemy action. The shows of force were declared successful. An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces. A JTAC requested the aircrew conduct a show of presence. The show of presence met the ground commander's intent. Kandahar Coalition pilots released multiple precision-guided munitions to destroy a damaged friendly-forces vehicle rendering it unusable to enemy forces. Khaval Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews released precision-guided munitions against enemy forces firing at friendly forces with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. The ground commander declared the engagement successful. Konduz Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch of friendly forces receiving small-arms fire from enemy forces. The pilots conducted multiple shows of force, which were declared successful by a JTAC. Chahar Bagh Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch of friendly forces. The aircrews later conducted a show of force upon the request of ground forces receiving enemy small-arms fire. The show of force was declared successful. A-10 pilots conducted shows of force above friendly forces in contact with enemy personnel attacking friendly positions with small-arms fire. A JTAC declared the shows of force successful. Balocan A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch to a friendly-forces convoy. The aircrew then provided armed overwatch to friendly forces conducting a nearby patrol. The aircrews conducted a show of force above the patrol to deter enemy action. The show of force was declared successful. Sangin Coalition pilots conducted a show of force above friendly forces who reported suspicious activity nearby. The show of force was declared successful. Airlift Action Zabul Province An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 17,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. Konar Province A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Konar Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 47,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
