Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Close-Air Support

Asmar
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews targeted pre-coordinated anti-Afghan forces positions in an early morning strike mission. The enemy fighting positions were destroyed with precision-guided munitions. Threats to friendly forces were neutralized

Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots responded to friendly forces taking enemy fire from a ridgeline enemy position and conducted a show of force then released precision-guided munitions, once coordinates of enemy positions were confirmed. The enemy fighting positions were destroyed and enemy fire terminated.

F-16C pilots provided armed escort for a friendly forces convoy and conducted a show of force over a known enemy fighting position to deter potential enemy fire on the convoy. The show of force, with flares launched, was successful as the convoy passed by with no enemy action noted.

Chahar Bagh
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, when friendly forces reported taking sporadic enemy fire. Ground control intentions were met when enemy fire ceased.

Gereshk
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, over an enemy compound to stop enemy fire. Ground control deemed the airpower actions successful when enemy fire stopped.

Sangin
Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, which was deemed successful and met the ground commander's intent.

Surkhabad
Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrews released a precision-guided munition on an enemy firing position to eliminate a threat to friendly forces. The strike was successful as the enemy position was destroyed.

Asadabad

F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a convoy. While flying an armed escort mission for the convoy, the aircrews conducted a show of force to deter potential enemy aggression along the route. The show of force was deemed successful when no enemy action was noted.

Musa Qala
Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots conducted a show of force that met the ground commander's intent and was considered successful.

Salerno 
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces dismounted patrol. The aircrews conducted shows of force when the patrol started taking enemy small-arms fire. The shows of force were successful when contact with enemy forces was broken and enemy fire ceased.

Tarin Kowt
A-10 pilots provided close air support to friendly ground forces. The aircrews conducted shows of force, to deter enemy action from a possible enemy bunker position. The shows of force were declared successful when no enemy action was noted.

Farah Province
An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 32,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 26,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province
A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.

Nimroz Province
An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Nimroz Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 30,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
