Feb. 19 airpower summary Published Feb. 22, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Feb. 19, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Close Air Support Lashkar Gah Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided close air support for friendly forces. Pilots observed improvised explosive device emplacers attempting to plant explosives and requested permission to eliminate the threat to friendly forces. Pilots eliminated the threat via strafing runs of cannon fire. Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly ground forces. When ground troops reported taking enemy small arms fire, operators fired a missile, terminating the enemy fire. Later, operators eliminated a sniper firing at friendly forces using a missile against the enemy sniper's fighting position. Konar Province An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Konar Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 30,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces. Oruzgan Province A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, airdropping combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces. The aircrew dropped approximately 34,000 pounds of supplies. Zabul Province A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces. Oruzgan Province A C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, airdropping combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
