Air Force officials here recently announced the four Air Force nominees for the 2009 Government Employees Insurance Company Military Service awards.

Master Sgt. Michael Lund of Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Senior Airman Curtis Billig of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii; Master Sgt. Vincent Dewberry of Robins AFB, Ga.; and Staff Sgt. Paul Rider of Camp Murray, Wash.; are the four Air Force winners who will go on to compete against winners chosen by each service branch.

The annual GEICO Military Services Awards recognize enlisted servicemembers from all military service branches, active duty, Guard and Reserve for their contributions to military and civilian communities.

Sergeant Lund is the Air Force winner in the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention category. Sergeant Lund is the superintendent of the 86th Security Forces Squadron.

Airman Billig, who won at the Air Force level in the Fire Safety and Prevention category, is a fire protection journeyman at the 15th Civil Engineer Squadron.

Sergeant Dewberry is the superintendent of plans and programs at the 78th Security Forces Squadron, and is the Air Force winner in the Traffic Safety and Accident Prevention category.

Sergeant Rider won in the Air Force Reserve/Air National Guard category and is a visual information specialist for the 194th Mission Support Flight.

GEICO officials will select an award recipient in each category from all nominees submitted by each of the military services. The recipients will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., this spring.
