Feb. 2 airpower summary Published Feb. 6, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Feb. 2, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Close-Air Support Asadabad Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for an Afghan-forces convoy. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy action in the convoy area. The show of force was considered a success when the convoy reached its destination without incident. Air Force F-16 pilots later provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces patrol. When the patrol reported taking fire from a known enemy position, pilots received target coordinates and released a precision-guided munition, ending the enemy fire. The patrol continued with its mission. Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force in order to deter enemy fire directed against friendly forces. The shows of force were declared successful. Soltani Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for coalition forces. The aircrews conducted surveillance for suspicious personnel in the area. Later, aircrews conducted a show of force when coalition forces reported taking enemy fire. The show of force was successful as no further enemy action was noted. Qal-E-Naw An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for several units of friendly forces in the area. The aircrew conducted a show of force in order to deter enemy fire. The show of force was declared successful when no further enemy action was noted. Sangin Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots scouted for suspicious activity in the area. Later, they conducted shows of force, with flares launched, over a known enemy position to deter potential enemy action. The shows of force were declared successful when no enemy action was noted. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces. The Naval aviators arrived on-station after an improvised explosive device had detonated against a passing convoy. The convoy forces were not harmed but several suspicious people were observed in the vicinity of the previous detonation. The Navy aircrews conducted a show of presence to alert the suspicious personnel airpower was overhead. They also conducted a show of force and the suspicious personnel left the area. Airlift Action Badghis Province An Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping supplies to friendly forces. Approximately 34,500 pounds of supplies were dropped. Kandahar Province An Air Force C-130 aircrew flew a combat-sustainment mission in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces. Helmund Province An Air Force C-130 aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Helmund Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,500 pounds of supplies to friendly forces. Farah Province An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew air-dropped approximately 42,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces during a combat-resupply mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan. Afghanistan An Air Force C-130 aircrew distributed informational leaflets via airdrop to locations across Afghanistan. Air Operations in Iraq: There was no significant action to report today.
