Seymour Johnson officials honor fallen Airman

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. (AFNS) --  base officials paid respect to the dignified transfer of a fallen Airman Jan. 25 at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Tech. Sgt. Adam Ginett, a Knightdale, N.C., native, died Jan. 19 near Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds incurred from an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 31st Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight from Aviano Air Base, Italy.

"A dignified transfer is our way of showing the family how much their Airman's service is valued," said Tech. Sgt. Stacey Hines, the NCO in charge of the base honor guard. "This brought the war to our doorstep and is the least we can do for (Sergeant) Ginnet, who paid the ultimate sacrifice."

Sergeant Ginett's family was on hand to witness the ceremony along with base leaders and other EOD servicemembers.

Along the transport route to the main gate, Airmen lined the streets to pay their respects to Sergeant Ginett by rendering final salutes to their fallen comrade.

Before leaving the base, more than 80 members of the Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcycle organization that honors fallen servicemembers, joined to lead the procession.

Sergeant Ginett will be laid to rest in Raleigh, N.C.
