'Today's Air Force' features A-10 Thunderbolt II

  • Published
In this edition of "Today's Air Force," the A-10 Thunderbolt II is featured getting a new lease on life. Plus, viewers get an inside look at the coordinated effort of providing security for a base in Iraq.  And, F-16 maintainers show how they prevent a small screw from creating a big headache.

Flying missions in two wars for the past eight years is aging the Air Force fleet much faster than planned. That increased ops tempo is driving renovation and upgrade programs for some of the Air Force's workhorse aircraft, including the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

Joint Base Balad in Iraq has the largest security forces group defending a base since the Vietnam War. Different units combine their efforts to guard the inside while also taking the fight outside the gates. See how members from various career fields in three different armed services coordinate to keep everyone on the base safe.

Keeping fighter jets in the air takes a lot of hard work and attention to detail. Watch and learn how just one small problem can take a jet out of the fight, and why F-16 crew chiefs need to be so meticulous.

The 30-minute, weekly news show can be seen every day on The Pentagon Channel and American Forces Television Service stations around the world.
