Jan. 2 airpower summary Published Jan. 4, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Jan. 02, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Khanabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch for coalition forces as well as a friendly-forces patrol. Friendly forces requested air support when an enemy fighting position and suspicious personnel were observed near coalition forces. The friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. A show of force was conducted but did not stop enemy fire. Once coordinates for the enemy position and the suspicious personnel were received, the aircrew released precision-guided munitions and made numerous strafing runs against the target, which eliminated the threat. No further enemy action was noted. Asadabad Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided armed overwatch and force protection for coalition forces. The friendly forces were searching and clearing known enemy fighting positions when they reported taking indirect enemy fire. A precision-guided munition was dropped in the vicinity of the enemy fighting position as a warning after confirming no non-combatants were in the area. The action was successful as all enemy aggression in the area ceased. Moqor F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for coalition forces. Aircrews provided a show of force pass and no enemy action was noted. Lashkar Gah A coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for friendly forces. The pilot observed enemy personnel massing near a bridge and requested permission to conduct a show of force. The show of force was successful as the crowd dispersed. Musa Qala A coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was conducted once the aircraft was on station.
