Dec. 30 airpower summary Published Jan. 2, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan in the following operations Dec. 30, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Lashkar Gah An Air Force MQ-1B Predator provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces operation. Friendly forces requested air power for self defense. The Predator delivered a missile against a suspected enemy position and succeeded in destroying the position. No further enemy action was noted. Chahar Bagh An Air Force MQ-1B Predator aircraft provided armed overwatch and force protection for a friendly-forces operation. The Predator viewed enemy forces digging in the ground in order to plant an improvised explosive device. Friendly forces then reported enemy fire from the direction of the diggers. A missile was fired on the enemy's coordinates and was considered successful when the threat to friendly forces was eliminated. Karokh An Air Force B-1B Lancer provided armed overwatch and surveillance for a friendly-forces convoy. The convoy had previously taken enemy fire and was expecting an ambush. The B-1B aircrew observed multiple enemy shots fired at the convoy and requested permission to release munitions to defend the convoy. Precision-guided munitions destroyed enemy fighting positions and the convoy continued to its destination. Bagram An Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle provided armed overwatch for a coalition forces convoy. When convoy leaders reported enemy personnel massing along the convoy route, a show of force was requested to deter any enemy aggression. The show of force was deemed successful when the enemy dispersed without any action taken. Konduz An Air Force F-16 provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. The aircraft observed no suspicious activity along the convoy route and was requested to conduct a show of force to deter any potential enemy activity. The show of force was successful as no enemy action was noted and the convoy reached its destination. Kandahar A coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces. The aircraft was instructed to conduct a show of force over an area where suspicious people were observed in the act of possibly planting an improvised explosive device. The show of force, with flares expended, succeeded as the suspicious personnel turned out to be farmers with a problem and no enemy action was noted. Morghab F-16C aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Once on station, the aircraft responded to a friendly-forces request for a show of force to continue deterrence of any enemy action. The show of force was deemed successful when no enemy action was reported. Air Operations in Iraq: No significant action to report in the last 24 hours.
