Dec. 28 airpower summary Published Dec. 31, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Dec. 28 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Asadabad Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy forces attacked the friendly forces while the aircraft refueled, a request to deter the enemy was made. Precision-guided munitions were released near the enemy fighting position which terminated the threat to friendly forces. Morghab An Air Force B-1B Lancer and F-16C aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The friendly units reported receiving significant enemy small-arms fire and requested air support. The points of origin for the enemy fire were confirmed and passed to the aircraft. Precision-guided munitions were released on the target coordinates, destroying the enemy fighting positions. Later, shows of force were performed to deter any potential enemy action and reassure friendly forces that air power was still in the area. The shows of force were successful as no new enemy action was noted. Asmar Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for a friendly forces dismounted patrol.
