Dec. 15 airpower summary Published Dec. 23, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Dec. 15 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Shurakian An Air Force B-1B Lancer provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy fire and being hit with an improvised explosive device, a request for air power support was made. A show of force was performed and considered successful when no further enemy action was noted. Surkhabad Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The friendly forces reported taking enemy fire and requested air power assistance to terminate the enemy action. Precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy position once the coordinates were confirmed. This action successfully ended the enemy fire. A show of force also was requested to deter any future enemy action. There was no report of any further enemy action. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The friendly forces reported receiving enemy small-arms fire and requested immediate air power assistance. An enemy compound was confirmed as point of origin for the enemy fire and precision-guided munitions along with a strafing run ended all enemy action from the enemy position. Morghab A B-1B flew armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces and a convoy. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy small-arms fire, a show of force was requested to deter the enemy fire. The show of force was successful in stopping the enemy fire. The aircraft continued providing reconnaissance over the intended convoy route until the convoy arrived at its destination. Sangin Navy F/A-18C Hornets provided armed overwatch for coalition forces. The coalition forces reported suspicious activity at an anti-coalition compound and requested a show of force to deter enemy action. The show of force was successfully performed when no enemy action was noted. Lowkhi Navy F/A-18F Super Hornets provided armed overwatch and surveillance for a coalition forces convoy. The convoy requested air support when they were hit with enemy small-arms fire. Precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy position once the coordinates were confirmed. Firing stopped immediately after the air strike. Asadabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Air power assistance was requested when suspicious personnel were observed in a known enemy fighting position. The personnel were confirmed to be enemy forces and precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy position. This eliminated a potential threat to the friendly forces. Gardez A-10 aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces patrol. The friendly patrol requested a show of force to deter any enemy activity when suspicious activity was noted along a common convoy route.
