Incirlik officials launch onto social networking scene Published Dec. 9, 2009 By Senior Airman Sara Csurilla 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey (AFNS) -- Incirlik Air Base officials entered the social networking scene by creating Web pages to keep up with today's fast-paced news and media. The commander and Public Affairs staff have set up a presence on Facebook and Twitter to reach out to Airmen and their families and give them the information they need in the most convenient way possible. Facebook has more than 200 million users worldwide, and Twitter is an ever-growing networking site with more than 28 million users worldwide. "Social media is a part of life for today's generation," said Col. Eric Beene, the 39th Air Base Wing commander. "I want our Airmen to have the ability to receive information they want and need in a medium that is familiar to them. Social media will help me highlight the good things this wing does every day and it will allow me to get the message out in 140 characters or less. It's another way for me to make sure we remain fit, focused and fighting for what's right." The base Facebook page offers news updates, photo albums and with nearly 700 fans in the first two weeks, it offers the opportunity to network with others. Twitter offers instant updates and brief descriptions of news and events concerning the base. To become a friend of people at Incirlik Air Base on Facebook, search for Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and to follow Incirlik on Twitter, search 39_ABW or Colonel Beene's Twitter account, 39_ABW_CC.
