Dec. 6 airpower summary Published Dec. 8, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Dec. 6 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Asadabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. In pre-emptive strikes on enemy positions, numerous precision-guided munitions were released on potential enemy fighting positions. The enemy positions were destroyed, eliminating threats to friendly forces. In later action, F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pre-emptive strikes were made on several enemy fighting positions with precision-guided munitions. The strikes eliminated the potential threats to the friendly forces. F-15E aircraft were overhead for reconnaissance and support to friendly forces. When enemy activity was observed, their locations were confirmed and precision-guided munitions were released. The positions were destroyed, eliminating threats to friendly forces. F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported receiving enemy small-arms fire, a request for air support was made. The point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and coordinates passed to the aircraft. Precision-guided munitions were released on the target eliminating the enemy fire. F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Once on station, the aircraft were tasked with providing several shows of force to deter enemy action. The shows of force were performed successfully as no enemy action was noted. Morghab Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft provided overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly ground forces. The friendly forces attempted to assist in uprighting an overturned vehicle and requested shows of force to deter any enemy activity during the recovery operation. The shows of force were conducted and declared successful when no enemy action was noted. Chahar Bagh An Air Force B-1B Lancer and Navy F-18E Super Hornet aircraft were providing overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy small-arms fire, the point of origin of the enemy fire was confirmed and the coordinates passed to the aircraft. Precision-guided munitions were released on the target and a strafing run was made on the target, destroying the enemy fighting position and eliminating the enemy fire. Later, a show of force was performed to continue the deterrence of enemy action. Musa Qaleh Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs were overhead providing overwatch and surveillance for friendly forces. The aircraft observed enemy personnel closing on friendly forces and requested permission to neutralize the threat potential. A strafing run was directed on the enemy force that thwarted the enemy action and allowed the friendly forces to close in and engage the enemy in a counter attack. The enemy was defeated. Several shows of force were later made to continue deterrence of any enemy action. Bastion A-10 aircraft provided armed overwatch for coalition forces. When the coalition forces reported they were taking enemy small-arms fire, a show of force was performed to stop the enemy fire. The show of force, with flares expended, was reported as successful when the enemy fire ceased and allowed the coalition forces to evacuate the area. Tirgari F-15E aircraft provided overwatch for friendly forces. When the aircraft checked in on station, they were requested to perform a show of force over friendly forces to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was determined to be successful when no enemy action was noted. Air Operations in Iraq: No significant action to report in the last 24 hours.
