Dec. 1 airpower summary Published Dec. 4, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Dec. 1 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Asadabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. Precision-guided munitions were employed in a preemptive strike on an enemy compound when the enemy was observed massing there for a possible attack on friendly forces. As the enemy forces shifted from building to building in the compound, the buildings were destroyed and the threat to friendly forces was eliminated. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcons provided armed overwatch and surveillance for friendly forces. The aircrews were requested to observe enemy fighting positions and then were requested to eliminate the enemy targets in order to deter any potential enemy action. The actions were considered success when no enemy action was noted. Now Zad Air Force MQ-9A Reapers were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircraft also were providing reconnaissance of the area. When enemy forces were observed entering a fighting position in the vicinity of friendly forces and weapons were confirmed in their possession, missiles and precision-guided munitions were released in a preemptive strike on the enemy, successfully eliminating a threat to the friendly forces. Chahar Bagh Air Force B-1B Lancers provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for improvised explosive devices and suspicious activity near friendly forces convoy routes. When suspicious personnel were reported in the middle of one of the routes, a show of force was performed that scattered the suspicious personnel. Moqor Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for friendly forces. The friendly forces reported unusual enemy activity in the area and requested a show of force to deter potential enemy action. The show of force was successful in preventing enemy action. Jalalabad F-15E aircraft were providing armed overwatch for a friendly forces foot patrol. Shows of force were requested while doing a battle-damage assessment in the area. The shows of force were successful in deterring enemy action in the area. Air Operations in Iraq: No significant action to report in the last 24 hours.
