Nominations sought for 2010 American Legion service award Published Dec. 3, 2009 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Air Force Personnel Center officials here are now accepting nominations for the 2010 American Legion Spirit of Service Award. The award is sponsored by the National Headquarters of the American Legion and is presented annually to an enlisted member from each of the military branches for outstanding volunteer service performed off duty in the local community. Nominees must be in the grades of airman through staff sergeant. Nominees will be measured on the benefit of service the individual performed off duty in the local community from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2009. Each major command, field operating agency, and direct reporting unit may submit one nomination. Individual MAJCOM, FOA, and DRU officials will determine nomination procedures and deadlines. The award presentation will take place during the American Legion National Convention in 2010. American Legion officials will provide travel (within the continental United States) and billeting accommodations for the award winners.
