Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 8 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Chahar Bagh
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided armed overwatch for friendly forces patrols. When several friendly forces patrols reported receiving enemy small-arms fire, a request for airpower assistance was made. The point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and a strafing run was made, terminating the enemy fire.

Navy F/A-18A Hornets provided armed overwatch and route clearance for a friendly forces patrol. Activity at an enemy position was observed and a show of force was requested to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was considered successful when no enemy action was noted.

Shurakian
Air Force B-1B Lancers flew armed overwatch for a friendly forces patrol. A call for a show of force was received when enemy forces fired on the friendly forces in an attempt to draw them into an ambush. The show of force (with flares expended) was successfully performed and deterred any enemy action.

Morghab
A-10s conducted armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy activity was observed at an enemy-fighting position, airpower was called in to intervene. Shows of force were demonstrated and were successful in deterring any enemy action.

Sangin
Navy F/A-18C Hornets provided area reconnaissance for friendly forces. When enemy personnel were seen roadside in a ditch, strafing runs were conducted to deter and end any enemy action at the location.

Qalat
B-1Bs provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces and reconnaissance for possible improvised explosive device emplacers. When friendly forces reported receiving intermittent small-arms fire, a show of force was conducted which ended the enemy fire.
