Nov. 7 airpower summary Published Nov. 10, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 7 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Musa Qala Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and Navy F/A-18C Hornets provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported receiving enemy small-arms fire, a request for assistance was made. Shows of force (with flares expended) were performed over the city to deter the enemy action. The shows of force were successful in deterring the enemy action. When the enemy forces were seen massing at an enemy position, a strafing run was made on the position, eliminating the target. Remak Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported being hit with enemy mortar fire, calls for shows of force were received. The shows of force (with flares expended) successfully ended the enemy action. Farah Navy F/A-18F Super Hornets conducted armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy fire was reported, airpower was called in to intervene. A show of force was demonstrated and was successful in deterring further enemy action. Asmar F-15Es provided area reconnaissance for a friendly forces convoy. A show of force was made to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was successful. Chahar Bagh Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When a suspicious vehicle was located at an enemy position, strafing run was made that destroyed the target area and eliminated the potential threat to friendly forces. Ali Kheyl F-15Es supported friendly forces. When known enemy positions were observed to be manned, airpower was called to neutralize the threat to friendly forces. The coordinates for multiple enemy positions were passed to the aircrew and precision-guided munitions were released on the targets. The action was successful as the enemy positions were eliminated and no longer a threat to friendly forces. Shinkay A-10s provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A request for a show of force was made to deter any possible enemy action while friendly forces were in the town. The show of force was successful as no enemy action occurred.
