Nov. 4 airpower summary

Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 4 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcons and F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When several friendly forces patrols reported receiving enemy small-arms fire, a request for a show of force was made. The show of force was briefly successful in deterring enemy action. When the enemy small-arms fire broke out again, precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy-fighting position ending the enemy fire.

Asmar
F-15Es flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. A call for a show of force was received when enemy forces fired on the friendly forces. The show of force was successfully performed and deterred enemy action.

Qal-E-Naw
F-15Es conducted armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy activity was observed at an enemy-fighting position, airpower was called in to intervene. Shows of force were demonstrated and were successful in deterring enemy action.

F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircraft were also providing reconnaissance of the area for the friendly forces. A show of force was conducted to deter any enemy aggression and was deemed successful when no enemy action was reported.

F-15Es returned to an area again to provide armed overwatch for friendly forces. When anti-Afghan forces activity was observed, a show of force was performed to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was successful.

Kandahar
Air Force MQ-1B Predator aircraft provided reconnaissance for friendly forces. The aircraft operator obereved enemy personnel emplacing an improvised explosive device, coordinates were confirmed. A missile was fired and destroyed the IED.

Soltani
F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When a possible enemy weapons cache position was confirmed, and the area cleared of civilians and friendly forces, precision-guided munitions were released and destroyed the target area.

Surkhabad
Navy F/A-18C Hornets were overhead in support of a friendly forces dismounted patrol. When the convoy neared a known anti-coalition force fighting position, a request for a show of force was made. The show of force was demonstrated and the show of force was considered successful when no enemy action occurred.

Konduz
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. They were also conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance of the area. An active enemy mortar position was observed and several precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy position. Then several strafing runs were conducted to ensure destruction of the enemy-fighting position.

An Air Force MQ-9A Reaper conducted ISR mission of the area for suspicious enemy activity. The aircraft operator observed enemy forces massing for possible attack on friendly forces. Precision-guided munitions and missiles were deployed on the enemy-position eliminating the threat to friendly forces.

A-10s were flying armed interdiction for friendly forces. A report of enemy forces massing near the friendly force position resulted in a request for a show of force. The show of force, with flares expended, was conducted and considered successful when the enemy forces were observed leaving the area.
