Nov. 5 airpower summary Published Nov. 10, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 5 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Surkhabad Air Force B-1B Lancers provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported receiving enemy small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades, a request for air support was made. Precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy-fighting position ending the enemy attack. Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance of the area for friendly forces. When enemy action was observed in a known enemy compound, a show of force was requested to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was performed and declared successful when no enemy action took place. Asadabad Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcons flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. A call for a precision-guided munition was made for destruction of a known enemy-fighting position. Ground forces confirmed the target coordinates and that there were no civilians or friendly forces present, the precision-guided munition was released destroying the target. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. More enemy-fighting positions were identified and coordinates confirmed so the threat to friendly forces could be eliminated. Precision-guided munitions were deployed eliminating the enemy-fighting positions. F-15Es were performing more armed overwatch for friendly forces. When coordinates were confirmed for more enemy-fighting positions, precision-guided munitions were employed eliminating potential threats to friendly forces. Later, additional F-15Es provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When the convoy reported they were taking enemy small-arms fire, the point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and precision-guided munitions were released on the coordinates, destroying the enemy-fighting position. Then, shows of force were performed to continue deterrence of any enemy action. Konduz Numerous aircraft to include an Air Force MQ-9A Reaper, F-16Cs and F-15Es conducted armed overwatch for friendly forces. When anti-Afghan forces activity was observed at several known enemy-fighting positions, numerous munitions were expended on various locations. These munitions included precision-guided munitions, strafing runs and missiles. They were released once confirmed coordinates were obtained. The targets were destroyed. Shows of force were also performed to deter any potential enemy action. The shows of force were successful. F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircraft were also conducting reconnaissance of the area for friendly forces. A show of force was conducted to deter any enemy aggression and was deemed successful when no enemy action was reported. Shindand B-1B aircraft provided area reconnaissance for a friendly forces convoy. When the convoy reported taking enemy small-arms fire, a show of force was performed to deter the enemy action and was considered successful when the enemy fire ceased. Musa Qala Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested for pre-emptive measures of reducing the eventual enemy force in the area. The show of force was successful in its intentions of disrupting the enemy efforts and allowing friendly forces to see where the enemy was located. Lashkar Gah Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. They were also conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance of the area. Two active enemy rocket-propelled-grenade positions were observed and precision-guided munitions along with strafing runs were executed on the enemy positions. The enemy-fighting positions were destroyed and a show of force performed to continue the deterrence of any further enemy action in the area. Morghab An Air Force MQ-1B Predator conducted an ISR mission for a friendly forces convoy. The aircraft operator observed enemy forces attacking the convoy and a missile was deployed on the enemy position eliminating the threat to the convoy. A-10s flew armed interdiction for a friendly forces patrol returning to base. As they approached a possible ambush point, a request for shows of force was sent. The shows of force were performed and no enemy action was observed. Another show of force, with flares expended, was performed when the aircraft observed looting by enemy forces. The show of force caused the enemy to disband and stop the looting. Tirgari F-15Es performed armed overwatch of friendly forces. Shows of force were requested to deter any enemy action in the area.
