Nov. 3 airpower summary Published Nov. 10, 2009 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 3 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. Air Operations in Afghanistan: Konduz Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcons provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported enemy troop movement at an enemy site, a call for armed interdiction was made. Strafing runs were succesfully made on the enemy position. At another location, friendly forces were moving toward a burning vehicle and called for shows of force to deter any enemy action. The shows of force were successful in deterring enemy action. F-16Cs were providing armed overwatch for coalition forces. They were also conducting surveillance and reconnaissance for the coalition forces. A rumor that anti-coalition forces were planning a counter strike on the coalition forces created a request for a show of force in order to deter any enemy action and confirm airpower presence. A show of force, with numerous flares released was deemed successful as the counter strike did not happen. Sangin Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested to continue the deterrence of enemy action in the area when enemy movement was observed at a known enemy-fighting position. The show of force was a success. An Air Force MQ-1B Predator conducted surveillance and reconnaissance of the area for suspicious enemy activity. Enemy forces were observed digging to plant an improvised explosive device and coordinates for a missile launch were confirmed. The missile launch successfully destroyed the IED site. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets flew armed overwatch for a coalition forces convoy. A call for a show of force was received when enemy forces were observed congregating at a point ahead of the convoy. The show of force was successfully performed when no enemy action occurred. Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested when enemy forces opened fire on the friendly forces. The show of force was deemed a success when the enemy fire ceased. Asadabad Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided overwatch for friendly forces. Enemy activity was seen at an enemy-fighting position and airpower was called in to intervene. Precision-guided munitions were employed on the enemy-fighting position eliminating the threat of attack. Air Force B-1B Lancers were providing overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircraft also provided reconnaissance of the area looking for suspicious activity. When the friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire from an dug-in enemy location, the location was confirmed and the point of origin was passed to the aircraft. Precision-guided munitions were released on the enemy location, and the friendly forces were able to evacuate the area when the enemy fire was terminated. As the friendly forces moved to their next location and passing by a known enemy-fighting position, enemy activity was observed and precision-guided munitions were utilized again to terminate the enemy activity. The friendly forces were able to continue to their destination unimpeded. F-15Es were providing armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. A request for airpower assistance was received when enemy forces were seen massing in the vicinity of the friendly forces route. A show of force was conducted to deter any enemy aggression and was deemed successful when no enemy action was reported. Morghab Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided overwatch and route reconnaissance for a friendly forces convoy. When a possible ambush was reported, a show of force was requested to deter any possible enemy action and reassure the troops and locals that airpower was in the area. The show of force, with numerous flares expended, was performed and considered successful when no enemy activity was observed. Delaram A-10s provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When a possible enemy weapons cache position was confirmed, and no civilian or friendly forces were confirmed in the area, precision-guided munitions were released and destroyed the cache. Musa Qala A-10s were overhead in support of friendly forces. A request for a show of force was made when a vehicle struck an improvised explosive device and friendly forces in the area reported taking enemy small-arms fire. The show of force was demonstrated and the show of force was considered successful when the enemy fire stopped. Air Operations in Iraq: No significant action to report in the last 24 hours.
