Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Oct. 29, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. 

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces in the Kandahar area. An imminent threat was identified and confirmed by the friendly forces and coordinates were passed to the aircraft. The aircraft visually confirmed the enemy position and released precision-guided munitions on the enemy target with destruction of the position and elimination of the imminent threat.

Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces in Kandahar. An imminent threat was observed and a show of force was performed and the personnel were seen running. The show of force was successful in eliminating a potential threat.

Air Force B-1B Lancers provided armed overwatch for an Afghan National Army convoy that reported enemy small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire in Khaval. A request for airpower assistance was made and the aircraft confirmed the locations of the enemy fire. Multiple precision-guided munitions were released on the points of origin for the enemy fire and the enemy fire ceased

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided armed overwatch for friendly forces when they started receiving enemy fife from numerous positions in Khaval. The aircraft responded with numerous precision-guided munitions once the points of origin were confirmed. The action was considered a success when the enemy positions were destroyed and the enemy fire stopped. 

F-15Es provided overwatch for Afghan National Army forces in Asmar. When the ANA forces reported their compound being hit with enemy fire from numerous positions a request for a show of force was made. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy fire.

F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly forces when a concentration of enemy troops was observed approaching friendly forces in Asmar. The aircraft responded with precision-guided munitions and the threat to the friendly forces was eliminated. 

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided reconnaissance for a friendly forces' convoy and armed overwatch for friendly forces in Konduz. When the friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire, a show of force was performed and precision-guided munitions were released to deter the enemy action. When friendly forces in the vicinity of the convoy reported receiving sporadic enemy fire, a show of force was conducted to stop the enemy action and was also considered successful.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided armed overwatch for friendly forces in Chahar Bagh. When possible enemy action was reported, a show of force was conducted with flares expended to deter enemy action.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided armed overwatch for friendly forces in Chahar Bagh. Friendly forces requested a show of force to deter possible enemy activity. 

Thirty-one Air Force, Navy and coalition intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, 83 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols. These missions also integrated and synchronized with ground forces, provided overwatch and helped to deter and disrupt hostile activities

In Iraq, 21 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations. In addition, two Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In total, 14 close-air-support missions were flown in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt hostile activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Air Force airlift crews flew 151 airlift sorties, delivered 592 short tons of cargo and transported about 4,400 passengers. Airlift included about 95,000 pounds of aerial resupply cargo dropped over Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews flew as part of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Oct. 28, Air Force HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and pararescue teams transported five patients to coalition field hospitals from locations in Afghanistan. Pararescue team members aboard the helicopters located, rescued and began treatment to stabilize patients in the battlefield. The HH-60G aircrews transported these patients to field hospitals in less time than it takes for a civilian patient to reach emergency care by ambulance in most major cities.

Air Force aerial refueling crews flew 48 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.3 million pounds of fuel to 226 receiving aircraft.
