Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Oct. 27, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, an Air Force MQ-9 Reaper responded to a friendly forces request for air support in Lashkar Gah. Forces were receiving fire from an enemy position and passed coordinates for the building to aircrews. A missile strike was conducted on the enemy position ending the attack. 

Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces in Remak. The friendly forces reported receiving enemy small-arms fire and requested air support. The point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and shows of force were conducted ending the enemy fire.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided overwatch for friendly forces when threatening enemy activity was reported in Shurakian. A show of force was performed over the area and was deemed successful in deterring enemy action. Coalition aircraft were in the area providing armed overwatch for a friendly forces' convoy in the area. The aircraft responded to a request for air support in order to deter potential anti-Afghan forces' fire and action. Several shows of force were conducted successfully deterring any enemy action.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided overwatch for friendly forces in Asmar. The friendly forces reported activity at a known enemy position. A show of force was performed and successfully deterred enemy action. Later, when the friendly forces came under fire, the point of origin was confirmed and precision-guided munitions were released on the target, ending the enemy fire.

F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces in Asadabad. A show of force was conducted in the area to deter any potential enemy action and was successful.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-15E aircraft provided overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly forces' convoy in Washir. The convoy was attacked by an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. The point of origin for the enemy fire was observed and confirmed. A precision-guided munition was released on the enemy cave position and terminated the enemy action. Shows of force were then performed and were successful in deterring potential enemy activity.

F-15Es provided armed overwatch for friendly forces in Gereshk. When the friendly forces started taking enemy fire, a request for airpower support was made. Shows of force were provided and ended enemy action in the area.

F-15Es provided overwatch for a friendly forces' convoy in Sheykhabad. When the convoy became stuck in a ditch and possible enemy action was noted, shows of force over the convoy were requested. The shows of force were performed and the convoy area was undisturbed. 

Twenty-eight Air Force, Navy and coalition intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan.

In total, 62 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols. These missions also integrated and synchronized with ground forces, provided overwatch and helped to deter and disrupt hostile activities

In Iraq, 25 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations. In addition, two Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In total, 25 close-air-support missions were flown in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt hostile activities.

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Air Force airlift crews flew 140 airlift sorties, delivered 424 short tons of cargo and transported about 3,100 passengers. Airlift included about 160,000 pounds of aerial resupply cargo dropped over Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews flew as part of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On Oct. 25, Air Force HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and pararescue teams transported six patients to coalition field hospitals from locations in Afghanistan. Pararescue team members aboard the helicopters located, rescued and began treatment to stabilize patients in the battlefield. The HH-60G aircrews transported these patients to field hospitals in less time than it takes for a civilian patient to reach emergency care by ambulance in most major cities.

Air Force aerial refueling crews flew 42 sorties and off-loaded approximately 2.8 million pounds of fuel to 215 receiving aircraft.
