Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Oct. 25, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft flew armed overwatch in the Sangin area. Friendly forces reported suspicious activity of anti-Afghan forces and requested airpower assistance to deter hostile action. Aircrews confirmed coordinates of the enemy position and released precision-guided munitions on the target. The aircraft's action was determined by an on-scene joint terminal attack controller to be successful as the enemy position was destroyed.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles were in the vicinity of Asmar providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircraft also provided reconnaissance of the area looking for suspicious activity in and around several known enemy positions. When suspicious activity was observed and enemy troops were confirmed at a sniper position and other enemy attack points, precision-guided munitions were released and the enemy activity at the locations ceased.

Asmar saw more F-15Es in the sky providing overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. As the convoy neared a known enemy position, a strafing run was employed to deter any potential enemy action. When a driver of the convoy reported sniper fire, another strafing run was made and the enemy action ceased. While still in the area, another potential threat was observed and a show of force conducted to deter enemy action.

In the vicinity of Qal-E-Naw, A-10s were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces started receiving concentrated enemy fire, the coordinates for the point of origin were passed to the aircraft and a strafing run was employed on the position. When enemy action was still observed at the compound, another pass was made eliminating the potential threat to friendly forces.

Chahar Bagh saw coalition aircraft in the sky providing overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was called in. The show of force was successful.

Near Lashkar Gah, A-10s were providing armed overwatch for helicopter wreckage. A show of force was requested over the site of the helicopter incident to deter any possible enemy action. The show of force was conducted and successfully deterred any enemy action.
