Air Combat Command honors POWs/MIAs

Bases throughout Air Combat Command honored prisoners of war and those missing in action during National POW/MIA Remembrance Day ceremonies held Sept. 18.   The observance is celebrated the third Friday of September.

In 1979, Congress passed resolutions for a national ceremony to honor America's POW/MIAs; those returned and those still missing. The first official ceremony was at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.,  and the missing man formation was flown by the 1st Tactical Squadron at Langley AFB.
