'Today's Air Force' features standup of new command Published Aug. 17, 2009 SAN ANTONIO (AFNS) -- In this edition of "Today's Air Force," the stand up the service's first new major command in nearly three decades is highlighted. Also featured are Airmen with special skills train for combat in Afghanistan and the best-of-the-best food service professionals in Europe compete for top honors. Air Force leaders demonstrated their commitment to reinvigorating the nuclear enterprise with the activation of the Air Force Global Strike Command. Find out what the new major command represents and what impact it will have on Air Force operations. The Air Force's joint terminal attack controllers are responsible for backing up ground units and calling in close-air support.
