It may have taken place at the "House of Blues" in Los Angeles, but no one was feeling down last night as five Air National Guard women were honored for their service.

The women were recognized as "unsung hometown heroes" as part of a "America's Search for Hometown Heroes" program, according to a online blog post by Air Guard recruiting spokesperson and country musician Laura Bryna.

Ms. Bryna performed the song "Hometown Heroes" at the private event and co-sponsored the event as a salute to the women along with Southern Beauty Magazine.

The honorees attending the show were: Maj. Becky Roman-Amabor from Ohio; Capt. Terri Prosperie from Georgia; Tech. Sgt. Martha Roman from Georgia; Staff Sgt. Nicolette Sebastian from Arizona; and Airman 1st Class Nicole Young from Arizona.

Bryna is part of a growing progression of spokespersons, programs and events used to market the Air Guard. Among others uses, outreach work assists in recruiting and retaining servicemembers, said officials.

Recently, the Air Guard released its recruiting and retention numbers for July. It reported 97 percent of its accessions, or 832 Airmen out of a goal of 855. Retention numbers were reported as within acceptable limits. The Army Guard reported 72 percent of its accessions, or 2,562 Soldiers out of a goal of 3,549. Both are expected to meet their end strength goals at the end of the fiscal year.
