The Air Force Safety Center has won a total of 22 communications awards from two different programs that recognize excellence in communications.  Eighteen Awards of Excellence were presented by Communicator Awards and four Awards of Excellence were presented by APEX.

Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals. Communicator Awards received more than 9,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world. The Award of Excellence, the highest honor, is given to those entries whose ability to communicate puts them among the best in the field.

The APEX awards program recognizes excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. The APEX Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries.

The following Safety magazines were recognized as award winners: Road & Rec, Flying Safety Magazine and the Weapons Journal. In January 2009, these magazines were combined into one AF Safety magazine titled "Wingman," which also received numerous awards. Award winners also include the Air Force Safety Strategic Plan, Chief of Safety coin and the Wingman magazine's logo.

Maj. Gen. Frederick Roggero is the Air Force chief of safety and commander of the Air Force Safety Center. Mr. William Redmond serves as executive director.
