Vandenberg official killed in Iraq

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFNS) --  The 30th Mission Support Group deputy director here was killed in action while serving in the Al Anbar province in Iraq May 25.

Naval Reserve Cmdr. Duane Wolfe, assigned as officer in charge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Al Anbar Area Office, Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, was performing his reserve duties in the Navy when he was killed by injuries received during an improvised explosive device attack.

"Each and every member of our team feels this tragedy, but we will pull together and help our own," said Col. David Buck, the 30th Space Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they cope with this terrible loss."

At Vandenberg, Mr. Wolfe served as the civilian deputy director of the 30th MSG, the wing's most heavily deployed unit.

"Duane's death will leave a hole in the mission support group that can never be filled," said Col. Rick Wright, the 30th MSG commander. "He was a great team member and an even greater friend."
