Nellis to stand up new aircraft maintenance squadron

Air Force Reserve Command officials will activate a new aircraft maintenance squadron in a May 15 ceremony here.

The 926th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, part of the 926th Group, supports the Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base.

Under the Total Force Integration initiative, the Air Force Reserve squadron will provide skilled manpower and continuity to the active duty 57th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

The 926th AMXS currently has 50 part-time and full-time reservists integrated into active-duty operations at the base. Through Total Force Integration, the active-duty Air Force provides the aircraft and the Air Force Reserve provides more people to accomplish the mission.

The reservists are spread across three aircraft maintenance units in the 57th AMXS, working on F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-22 Raptor aircraft. Air Force Reserve aircraft maintainers also are integrated into the Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds.

"The ARC personnel that we have are fully integrated into our daily operations, and we consider them a part of our squadron," said Lt. Col. Victor Mora, the 57th AMXS commander. "I look forward to the 926th AMXS' activation and reaping the benefits of Total Force Integration."

Maintainers in the 926th AMXS have been at Nellis AFB since 2006 as members of a detachment unit.

Since the unit has grown in terms of personnel strength and responsibility, the Air Force designated it a squadron. This new designation highlights the importance of the Air Force Reserve at Nellis and its expanding relationship with the active-duty Air Force.
